Medcycle is a trade marked process pioneered by CGH in the early 1990šs to demonstrate that the vast majority of wastes generated in surgical services and other clinical areas could, through good segregation, be collected as general solid waste, and that, in fact, most of these wastes were clean and could be easily recycled. The original results of the initial study are reproduced as published in the linked article below.

Medcycle Offers Opportunities for Nurses as Front-line Recyclers (Leach and Shaner)

An independent study conducted by a physician Dr. Myles Tieszen, collaborated the results of the early Medcycle study:

Tieszen, Myles, M.D. and James C. Gruenberg, M.D. A Quantitative, Qualitative and Critical Assessment of Surgical Waste: Surgeons Venture through the Trash Can. JAMA, May 27, 1992. Vol. 267 (20), pp. 2765-2768.

CGH has worked with numerous institutions to reduce the volume of regulated medical waste (RMW) from clinical areas such as surgery, ER, dialysis, ICU, etc., creating huge cost savings and opportunities for recycling through the Medcycle process.
